Bursary

Bursary

Each year the Abergavenny Local History Society awards up to two bursaries to the value of £250 each. Applications are invited from students who plan to apply to study History or joint History at University that year.

Eligible students must live in Abergavenny or surrounding villages and are invited to submit an entry of up to 500 words (excluding title and references) telling us something about themselves to justify the award of the bursary. Examples are who or what kindled their interest in history, relevant work experience involving history activities or projects, membership of a History Society or forum. They are also asked to say how they would plan to spend the award.

Application

In addition to their entry each applicant is asked to provide by email – their name, address, personal email address and an endorsement by their tutor. They must also include details of the University course to which they have applied.

The closing date for submission of applications is 30th April and applications are sent to alhsbursary@btinternet.com .

Applicants are also asked to contact the Society by email in August confirming their success in obtaining a place to study History or joint History at University that year. The Committee then decides on the successful applicant(s).

The Award

The award of the Bursary is made at a short ceremony held at The Borough Theatre in September. All applicants are invited to take up free membership of the History Society.
